Hi everyone,
Here are the minutes from our January meeting... sorry they are late
this month. I will send out the February meeting minutes very soon.
The next FIG Board meeting is March 8 at 7 pm at Project Insight.

FIG Quarterly All-Member Meeting
January 11, 2010
Members present: Jamie Lane, Lisa Gruver, Ann Runner, Margaret Ovitt,
Dan Barclay, Karen Peitzmeier, Brian Davies, Vajo Necek, Scott Worl,
and Holly Stovall
Approval of December Minutes: The minutes to the December meeting
were made available on the FIG listserve and a print copy was also
available at this meeting. The minutes were approved by Margaret and
seconded by Ann.
The Treasurer’s Report was presented by Jamie Lane with copies
handed out to the members. No corrections were made.
The next Board meeting will be held on Monday, Feb 15th at 7pm at
Project Insight. This meeting will be advertised on the FIG listserve
and the FIG website has a tab for finding meeting information.
Membership: Margaret gave the membership report. She has issued 12
gift certificates to Copperfield’s Book Store for new and renewing
members during the Nov-Dec membership drive.
For our next all-FIG member meeting, it was proposed to have a
potluck and dance, possibly at the Multicultural Center in early
April. We could have information about this year’s projects and a
laptop slide show with pictures of this year’s events.
January Supper: The next business was a report on the upcoming soup
supper on Jan 23rd at the Presbyterian Church. The supper committee
will hold a meeting on Jan 19th to finalize details. Someone will
call the newspaper and Rich Egger at WIUM. There will be at least 3
information tables on the side. Rob Porter will be there with info
about the community gardens, a table with info about sprouts, and a
FIG information table. Joel may have sweet potato sprouts to distribute.
The food co-op steering committee that we are partnering with gave a
brief report of their progress. An informational meeting will be held
soon to inform the public about our intentions and try to recruit
other talent from the community. Brian Davies expressed concerns
about a town of this size supporting a store. Vajo thought a kitchen
would be a great asset to help us prepare food to sell and rent as an
incubator kitchen. This is in the plan, but may not be in the first
year’s budget. Jamie will talk to Kim Pierson about her efforts with
a community kitchen. Dan, Jamie, Sean Dixon and Clare Kernik will
attend a business start-up conference with Dan Vorhees on Jan 13th.
Margaret reported her food co-op survey results and asked about the
upgrade to the Surveymonkey website to allow us to over 100 surveys.
A motion was made, seconded, and passed to give her approximately $17
for 2 months to compile and study the results.
Community Gardening: Dan reported that Rob Porter will be organizing
a meeting soon to talk about plans for the community gardens. (Now
set for Jan 25th at 6:30 at Horne Lodge).
Earth Day/WIU Earth Summit: The WIU Earth Summit will be held on
April 7th. FIG needs a new outreach leader since Margaret has taken
over membership. Brian Davies has volunteered to coordinate the setup
of the FIG booth at the Earth Day event at Macomb High School on
April 24. Dan suggested that we work as a partner with the
Environmentally Concerned Citizens to sponsor the event. Vajo
proposed that we donate $250 to help bring in speakers, etc. Margaret
seconded the motion and it passed unanimously.
FIG Governance: Dan suggested that we switch the FIG elections to the
fall so that the new president will be able to plan his/her own
agenda for the next year. Everyone agreed to this proposal. The by-
laws should be reviewed by election time to see if we need to alter
them.
Illinois Stewardship Alliance: Dan said that John Curtis will be
going to an Illinois Stewardship Alliance retreat this coming weekend
and wants ideas about topics to discuss and to put the lobbyist to
work on in Springfield. Lisa suggested health department rules; other
suggestions were school district food sourcing, and letting small
farms pay smaller fees, proportional to their output.
