[FIG-ALL] Living on the Land program to be offered in Western Illinois

Living on the Land will provide the necessary information to individuals
who have recently moved onto a rural property or who are looking to
learn more about possibilities for their acres. This program is designed
to help you better manage your property and as a result, the land is
more productive, the pastures are more reliable, wells and septic
systems are functioning properly and you learn how the whole system is
tied together. The goal is to assist small acreage owners in being good
stewards of their properties and the surrounding environment by
conserving natural resources and protecting water.
The program will cover the following topics:
* Goal setting - Resource inventory, setting goals, laws and
regulations, helpful resources
* Soils - Soils on your property, soil quality, soil testing and
fertility, erosion control
* Water - Water quality & quantity, testing, well & septic system
management, pond and streams
* Plants - Weed identification, grass and legume id, weed/plant
management in pastures
* Wildlife - Managing invited and uninvited critters, working with
nature
* Sustainability - Managing your property for the long term, whole
farm assessments
The program will be held on Tuesday evenings, 6-9 pm, from June 1st
through July 20th. The location will rotate throughout western IL
(Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough, Pike and Schuyler counties).
The cost for the program is $200 per individual or $300 per couple.
(Couples will receive one manual). Registration is limited.
Pre-registration is required and due by May 15th.
