Here is a reminder. I have put updates to my previous announcement
in bold.

Hi everyone,

The next quarterly all-FiG meeting will be Monday, October 12, from
6:30 to 8:00 pm. This will not be a potluck meeting. The location
will be the home of FIG members John Curtis
and Karen Mauldin-Curtis on West Adams Street. John runs the
Barefoot Gardens CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and this will
be a wonderful opportunity for those of you who are not familiar with
Barefoot Gardens or the CSA model of gardening & farming to see such
an operation close-up. The first Macomb FIG meeting took place at
Barefoot Gardens in the summer of 2007. Driving directions will
follow in a separate message. Drive west on Adams Street from WIU
for about one-and-a-half to two miles. On the way, go past the
Georgetown townhouse development and the fire station, both on your
left. Cross the LaMoine River on a low bridge. The Curtis place
will be the next two (2) driveways on the LEFT. Please use the
FIRST, very short, gravel driveway through some bushes to a grassy
field where you will find other cars already parked. Our meeting
overlaps by one-half hour (5-7 pm) the garden produce pick-up at
John's CSA, Barefoot Gardens. This overlap is intentional. We want
to give those of you who are not familiar with a CSA a chance to see
one in operation and John said that after two years there are
Barefoot Gardens members who do not know about FIG and may be
interested in joining or organization once they find out more about
what we have done in the past and what we hope to accomplish in the
future.

Our agenda for this October meeting will include:
1. A proposal to establish a Local Food CO-OP in Macomb of both
consumers and producers. Clare Kernek brought this idea to the last
FIG board meeting where it was greeted with much enthusiasm. Clare
mentioned that a natural first step would be the formation of a
steering committee to further develop such a food co-op.

2. A brief summary of the August 2009 Local Foods Dinner in Macomb.

3. A discussion of, and first call for a committee to organize, a
proposed "Soups, Stews, Breads, and Pies" Macomb Local Foods Dinner
in January 2010.

3A. A proposal to promote FIG at the Rialto Theater this coming week
during the showing of the film, Food, Inc.

3B. A proposal to help source or cater and event at the Brickyard on
October 25 for the purpose of promoting FIG and local food. I know
this is very short notice, but we will see if there are any of us
interested in this activity.

4. A brief summary of the FIG Children's tent at the 2009 Macomb
Farmer's Market and a call for more volunteers to help with the FIG
Children's Tent for the summer 2010 Macomb Farmer's Market.

5. Discussion of a proposal for FIG to take a more active role in
facilitating & encouraging the donation of fresh produce to local
food banks.

If you have other items that you would like to include on the agenda
please contact me.

I hope to see you on October 12th! (The countryside where the Curtis
place is located makes knowing the address a bit silly... unless you
are trying to use a GPS system. Let me know if you want the address.)
