Hi all,

We will set the FIG Priorities for 2009 at the meeting tomorrow (Mon. Jan. 12), 7-8:30pm, New Copperfield's Book Service (120 N. Side Square).
Please read the information below so that you are already prepared with
your thoughts regarding our priority projects and revisions on the
mission statement/goals. Priority projects would not restrict activity
or funding in other areas, but they would be a way for us to target
most of our funds and efforts. Focusing on key projects will also
enable us to coordinate between teams to mutually benefit each other's
goals.

Also, check out this link of Dan Barclay's cousin in Seattle making a garden in the front lawn!

Finally, bring some cash or checkbook if you are interested in purchasing locally grown foods. There will be a variety of products available for direct sale, including Allison Organic farm popcorn and wheat berries.

Cheers,
Lisa

7:00 - 7:30
Introductions

Quick Vote on Top Focus Areas for 2009

Survey results show top project areas as: Local Food Guide,
Web/Brochure Development, Local Foods Dinner, Farmers Market. However,
Community Gardening was high on the list for activities people wanted
to be involved in. Do we want to have community gardening be a FIG
Priority for 2009 or let an investigatory team figure out options and
develop something later, if opportunity allows it? Shall we call the
web/brochure team the education/outreach project team or put "web/food guide" and brochure under 'education/outreach'?

Quick Input on Revised Mission Statement/Goals
Proposed Revision:
The mission of Food Initiatives Group is to inspire community members to grow a fair, sustainable, and local food system.

Our goals are:

-to educate consumers about food choices

-to engage consumers in growing, eating, and preparing food

-to foster food-related networks

-to pursue favorable policy changes in agriculture

Treasurer's Report

7:30-8:00 Project Teams Meet
Choose someone to be a recorder, and someone to facilitate... and try to determine:
   1) minimum tasks you want to accomplish in 2009
   2) rough guesstimate on dates for major steps in accomplishing those tasks
   3) rough guesstimate of how many FIG members you need outside of your team to carry out each task
   4) rough guesstimate of how much money you need and by when

Individuals
not wanting to serve on a particular project team would be invited to
work on the mission statement/goals, and/or by-laws which will be voted
on for adoption at the March Quarterly Meeting.

8:00-8:30 Project Teams Report Back to the Group

Each project team will report back to the group their preliminary
thoughts on each category, for the purpose of getting additional ideas
and input across the teams. Project teams will be responsible to meet
on their own time and work out in more detail the above points to be
submitted to the board by the February board meeting. The board will
then present a strategic plan for FIG at the March quarterly meeting,
detailing major activities planned, budgets, and membership involvement
needed throughout the year.

8:30 Adjourn
