Title: Consider Organic Farming: Management and Marketing
Organic products
hold the promise of healthiness, wholesomeness, and higher profit. Organic production provides a unique
opportunity for local food production and for growers looking to expand
traditional crops and animal products. Small
farm owners, producers, educators, entrepreneurs, and the general public
interested in organic farming and local food production are invited to attend
and participate in our third annual ‘Consider Organic Farming’ workshop called
‘Management and Marketing.’
This program
will be offered by the University
of Illinois Extension on Thursday,
November 13, 2008 from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
It will be held at the McDonough
County 4-H Auditorium at the University of Illinois McDonough
County Extension Office located at 3022 West Jackson in Macomb. The cost for the afternoon portion of the program
is $10, and includes resources and refreshments.
Participants will
learn about organic information resources, cover crops, weed identification, small
farm marketing and more. Speakers include Dr. Joel Gruver, Soil Science
and Sustainable Ag faculty, Western Illinois University; Dr. Loretta Ortiz-Ribbing, University of Illinois
Extension Specialist, Crop Systems; Deborah Cavanaugh-Grant, Extension
Specialist, Small Farms and Sustainable Agriculture; and Terra Brockman,

Connection.
Immediately
following this workshop, participants are invited to attend the Tri-State
Organic Video Conference being televised live from Purdue University
from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. This interactive video conference will discuss “Advanced
Issues in Hoop House / High Tunnel Production.”
