Hi all,
As we are getting closer to developing a plan for enabling use of Link, credit, and debit at the farmers' market, we find ourselves with a great opportunity for leadership in coordination of this effort. It is a fairly well-defined project (or at least will be within the next 2 weeks), it enhances a critical component of our local and "community-oriented" food system--the farmers' market, and could be a fairly significant way for FIG to develop a 'face' within the community through staffing of the booth. The "booth" will be an opportunity to disseminate information about FIG and other partnering organizations, and ultimately could be a means of information gathering.
This leadership role could be more or less involved, depending on who is interested in filling it. It would involve coordinating the volunteers, being a contact person for backup/troubleshooting, eventually training the volunteers annually, monitoring token usage (and purchasing more if necessary), and writing a monthly EBT report that would summarize the use of the machine at the market. It could initially involve helping to be sure volunteer staff know how to set things up and take things down at the market (7 am and 12:30 pm)... until things get rolling. I would be a strong support initially as I've been investigating the "how to" of the program.
I really believe that our farmers' market is currently one of the most significant ways we can impact our food community.... and that providing Link, credit, and debit usage to the market is only a doorway to bringing more energy, community, and profitability to the farmers' market. Please think carefully about filling this role or who you know that might be good at this role. We could also have an assistant to this individual--let me know if you would be willing to serve in that way.
Lastly, let me know if you would be willing to serve a 2.5-3 hour shift as a volunteer booth staff at the market in October (possibly late Sept.). (Thursday or Saturday)
Thanks,
Lisa
